The Queen’s Captain
A Ransom Family Novel
The inspiration for a novel about the Ransom family was found in a short story I wrote in 2010. The piece was set during the reconstruction period following the War Between the States, and the central character for the narrative was based on a direct descendant of Miles Stuart Ransom, the protagonist of The Queen’s Captain. That short story was chosen for publication by a respected journal of Southern literature, and it was the first of my writings to be published. I still get a tingle up my spine when I remember it.
The Ransom family continued to appear from time in my short stories, and in 2016 my brother, Steve suggested that I use them as characters for a full-length historical novel. The Queen’s Captain is the first in a series of books chronicling the lives and adventures of the Ransom family in the new world. Set during Queen Anne’s War in 1710, the story introduces and follows Captain Miles Stuart Ransom of the Royal Navy, as he recovers from battle wounds and makes the decision to seek his fortune in Colonial America.

Just returned your call. Is 334-737-2727 correct ?
Lawrence I hope this goes direct to you. In any event I did not want to delay. Betty and I have just returned from lunch which was preceded by your phone call. Please know that we both will be praying for you. Betty reminded me of recent Jimmy Carter situation with liver cancer that had spread to brain with short terminal diagnosis. Then a miracle cure!
He had immunotherapy treatment (pembrolizumab) that trains immune system to fight tumors and is now declared cancer free. You might just look into this.
In the meantime please sign us a copy of The Queen’s Captain. The proverbial “check is in the mail”. Love and prayers from Bill and Betty
