Stonehenge

JUNE 21

SUMMER TIME

Today is the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere, and over 12,000 modern Druids gathered at Stonehenge to mark the occasion. The solstice went largely uncelebrated here in Opelika. There maybe a few Druids in lower Alabama, probably at least as many as there are Democrats, but fewer than Episcopalians. The newspaper did mention that June 21 is the longest day of the year.

Clista and marked the first day of summer by having our coffee on the back patio. While it will be in the 90s later in the day, it was quite nice this morning. The temp was in the low 70s, with very low humidity. It was perfect summer morning. The yard is in full bloom and everything is green and lush. As I’ve said before, we are lucky to live in such a beautiful place.

Yesterday I completed the move to my home office. My new mailing address is:

1315 Rocky Brook Road

Opelika, AL  36801

My business telephone number remains unchanged, 334-737-2727, and I have a fax machine, but I don’t know how to use it yet. I’m getting a tutorial late this afternoon, and hopefully will have it mastered in a few days. There will be a big estate sale at my old office building, Magnolia Cottage, Wednesday and Thursday, then one of our local charities will load up what’s left for their thrift store. The building will be deep cleaned and will go on the market On July 1.

We brought my office cat, Shiva, home last Saturday, and she is still being held in isolation while adapting to her new home. I’m not too worried about Shiva adapting, but it’ll be traumatic on our other two cats when we let Shiva join the gen-pop. Oh well, I guess everyone will get used to the new deal, even Clista who now has me 24/7.

JAKE’S REVENGE

Jake’s Revenge is now available on Amazon, in both print and e-book versions. I’m still waiting for the Front Porch Press website to be updated, but hopefully the book will be available from the publisher. As of this morning, all fifty of the signed books have been sold. To those of you who waited too late but still want one, I’ll be glad to order a book from Amazon myself and sign it and send it to you. You can order a signed copy of Jake’s Revenge by sending a check for $27.00 ($21.95 cover price plus $5.05 shipping) to:

Tom Lawrence

Opelika, AL 36801

I want to thank all of you who bought a signed copy, and as they say on PBS, Thanks for your support.

  1. Tom,

Do you really need a fax? For what it’s worth, I’ve worked around the need for a fax. Most people now work by sending attachments to emails. This also makes it much easier to forward the information as well as store it electronically.

For sending stuff, you can use your printer to make a pdf file or if it’s just one page, you can even take a picture of it with your phone and then send that.

    I don’t even have a landline anymore.

You probably knew all this but just in case…

    Respectfully, Frenchy Fort

  2. Tom – Since you reference the Druids, do you know the origins of the Druid City Hospital, in Tuscaloosa?
