While on the subject of food, I want to add another service station to my list of good places to eat. There is a Shell Station at exit 30 on US 78 on the Alabama stretch between Tupelo and Birmingham. I always try to time my lunch stop to be in the vicinity. They offer a variety of fast food type dishes, really good hamburgers and fried chicken, but the best dish on the menu is their fried catfish. It’s not the best catfish I have ever eaten, that honor still belongs to Bill Kyser of Greensboro, Alabama. Bill’s catfish is to catfish as steak is to Doe’s and there is no greater compliment in my mind.
